The design, feel, and sound are all pretty standard. This is one of the most satisfying ARs I've ever used. The bright yellow/blue muzzle flash lends a distinct prettiness to the murderous perforation that made it a joy to fire. The design, the sound, the alt-fire that literally disintegrated targets. It was never the stand out weapon in the series in terms of original design, but it's consistently a fan favourite. It's not got the versatility of many ARs due to the lack of scope, but it's surprisingly accurate at mid range with controlled bursts and strips enemies at close range. Pretty sure it's technically considered obsolete in-universe, but the inherent reliability and just super awesome ability to spew. The AR is pretty much the default weapon in most games, it's usually a reliable way to pump out damage with an "all round" versatility, and even just a serviceable one is something of a requirement, but when an AR really shines it can be something special. It's one of my favorite games of all time. Of course I hope the regular shotgun gets a boost, but as I said, it's not that important.īy the way, I really, really love Doom 2016. We'll have to deal with Mancubus from the distance, for example. Hugo Martin has said they're making changes so we cannot rely on the super shotgun too much. Anyway, I expect even greater balance for Doom Eternal. Every shooter is going to have one or two weaker weapons (including Doom 1/2), so it's not a big deal. In general, the weapon balance and combat system is pretty good (I'm switching between weapons all the time and it feels great). Of course, OG doom shotgun is better, but in Doom 2016 you have more tools to compensate, such us granades, an insta-kill chainsaw, glory kills and more powerups. It's extremely useful for the first hours and fun to use. The regular shotgun could be a bit more powerful, for sure, but I kinda like it.
